Royal Melbourne Show Results (see link below for full results)

Shorthorns had a very successful Royal Melbourne Show this year. There were 54 Shorthorns entered which made for some very strong classes, particularly the 12-15 months bull and heifer classes with 10 and 11 entries respectively. Chris Knox was the judge.

The Shorthorns had two interbreed champions as well as winning the Supreme Beef Breed Exhibit. Spencer Family Shorthorns won the Junior Interbreed Champion Bull and Glen Huon Shorthorns won the Senior Interbreed Champion Cow. The cow, Glen Huon Zena and her five month old calf went on to win the Supreme Beef Breed Exhibit of the Show from a total of 850 beef cattle entries they were very worthy winners indeed and impressive ambassadors for our Shorthorn breed.

In addition, Glen Huon Zena's calf won the Royal Melbourne Show's Calf Classic.

It should be mentioned also that the Beef Shorthorns had a very good Show with Malton Shorthorns winning the Senior Interbreed Champion Bull and the Junior Interbreed Reserve Champion Bull.

Overall, the Shorthorn fraternity were successful in four of the eight interbreed championship awards at the Royal Melbourne Show.

Bendigo Shorthorn Feature Show

There were 33 Shorthorns entered for Bendigo. Most of the Royal Melbourne teams were present and exhibited the Shorthorn breed favorably. Graeme Collins, Merribrook Angus, was the judge.

The Shorthorns were also successful in several interbreed classes at Bendigo. Glen Huon Shorthorns repeated their Royal Melbourne feat wining the Champion Cow and Supreme Exhibit awards. Glengyron Shorthorns won the best group of three head and Tatalia Shorthorns won the best pair of bulls.

Thanks go to our breeders who supported the Bendigo Feature Show. The Shorthorns exhibited were of an excellent standard and showed off the breed to advantage.

Royal Geelong Show

The 150th Royal Geelong show was another notable show for the Shorthorns this year with Tippett's Glengyron Stud winning Grand Champion Shorthorn Bull. This was a special achievement, repeating the Glengyron Stud's success 100 years earlier at Geelong when the Tippett Brothers also won Grand Champion Shorthorn Bull.

Glengyron also won a class in the Interbreed Heifer Classic as well as taking out Reserve Junior Interbreed Champion Bull.

Congratulations to Greg & Linda Shinners of Pennyroyal with second place in the steer carcase competition.
